I had my midwife appointment last Thursday.... Everything is going very well and she was able to answer all of my questions. This was the first time I was able to see her (Holly) and I really liked her. When we listened to the
heartbeat I was concerned for a millisecond because it sounded so different. I think she noticed that I was questioning what I heard and she right away said that the heartbeat sounded great. She explained that what we were hearing was the actual valves opening and closing.
I mentioned to her that we have our hearts set on finding out the gender on my birthday this Saturday and that I would be 18 weeks that day. She explained that at 18 weeks the evaluator may find certain markers that are associated with syndromes or birth defects. She explained that at 20 weeks or 22 weeks these markers may not necessarily be seen and that there may not be any abnormal findings (false positives). She remarked that she would wait herself but I was free to do what I felt was right. Well I'm not sure if it's right but Melissa and I have decided to go this Saturday. I will be sure to update everyone on the (hopefully) good news.
I know most of the people who read this already know but just
in case I wanted to mention that
unfortunately Melissa's
stepmom JoJo passed away this past
Thursday. It has been the hardest and
sadest thing that we have dealt with as a couple. I'm really not good at dealing with death and am having a bit of a hard time being supportive toward Melissa and Brianna. I know it will get better but I don't think anyone will ever "get over" loosing
JoJo. I have to agree with all of her friends and family when they say that she was
truly one of the most amazing people in this world.
